From animal welfare to animal rights

“The primary basis for the concept of ‘animal welfare’ is the belief that animals are sentient beings with an ability to experience good or bad feelings or emotional states.”

Animal welfare can also be defined as “how well an animal is biologically, behaviorally, and emotionally coping with their environment.”

The concept of animal rights acknowledges these definitions and goes a step further: regardless of how animals are treated, it is not ethical to use them for food, clothing, entertainment and experiments.
