Parkinson Disease and pesticides
So far, lack of evidence hinders the establishment of a causal link between the use of or exposure to pesticides and the risk of Parkinson disease. Even though further research is definitely desirable to draw conclusions, meta-analyses do point out reason to remain alert.
One meta-analysis that included 46 studies concluded:
“Our overall summary risk estimates strongly suggest that exposure to pesticides, and to herbicides and/or insecticides in particular, increases the risk of developing Parkinson Disease.”
Another meta-analysis, that included 89 studies, stated:
“The literature supports the hypothesis that exposure to pesticides or solvents is a risk factor for Parkinson Disease.“
