Hunting for a balance in nature?
Nature can keep itself in balance. There is actually a relation between the number of wild boar and the amount of food produced by plants and trees.
Animals also have their own way of dealing with food shortages. For instance, red deer engage in a ‘hidden hibernation’. Their energy use and food intake then also decreases.
Furthermore, large-scale hunting leads to a high reproduction rate. It is the case that wild boar are actually having more children. Meanwhile, there is a decrease in the life expectancy of animals that are hunted.
Not only do hunters kill healthy animals, they also destroy the social organizations of animals.
