Carnism: the three Ns
These three Ns have also been used to justify slavery, for instance. Nowadays, the manner in which animals are kept is unnatural, and allowing for animal abuse in agriculture goes against the empathy we are born with. There is also no reason why some animals should be regarded as companions and others as ‘food’. Not to mention, humans can obtain sufficient nutrients from plant-based food sources. In the end – despite certain exceptions – eating animal-based products is a choice, and choices stem from beliefs. Consuming animal-based products is the result of carnism as an institutionalized, oppressive and violent belief system.
